Better Parenting Tool # 3 - Walk Your Talk

"Children pay attention to everything we do as parents. What we do has a far greater impact on our children than what we say." - Dave Kovar (A Dad's Toolbox for Better Parenting)

Better Parenting Tool # 2: We set the best example for our children when we live and act honestly and in keeping iwht our own integrity without compromise. We keep our eye on the big picture -- our won integrity and the character development of our children -- rather than compromise our integrity and honesty for short-term gains.

Better Parenting Tool # 2 - Affirm Your Child's Potential

"Probably the single most important factor that will increase your child's overall success in life is your own belief that she can succeed." - Dave Kovar (A Dad's Toolbox for Better Parenting)

Better Parenting Tool # 2: Every morning as you are brushing your teeth, ask yourself if your words and actions have been congruent with your belief in your child's potential? If not, decide how you will affirm child's potential that day!

Better Parenting Tool # 1 - Look for Opportunities to Praise Your Child

"There is no better feeling than receiving public recognition from someone we respect. We should be constantly looking for opportunities to praise our children openly."
- Dave Kovar, Author & Martial Arts Teacher

Better Parenting Tool #1: Like Indiana Jones, go on a treasure hunt. Instead of looking for an ark, search for opportunities to praise your child during your normal, daily acitivities. These moments could occur at the grocery store, social gatherings, talking with friends on the phone or just about anywhere you and your child are with other people. It might take practice but praising your child in public will soon come naturally.

Peter Liciaga, Mount Laurel Martial Artist, trains with author and parenting expert, Dave Kovar

In this video Peter Liciaga and Dave Kovar discuss Dave's new book, A Dad's Toolbox for Better Parenting.

Dave's expertise as a leader and teacher in the martial arts world, as well as his own journey of fatherhood, gives him a unique perspective to speak out on what it really means to be a Dad. But more than experience, Dave has a passion for helping children and their parents lead healthier, happier lives. A Dad's Toolbox for Better Parenting is a source of constant support and practical inspiration on how to be a better father-the kind of father you want to be and your children deserve.

Peter will draw lessons from this book to share with the Mount Laurel community, teachers, martial arts instructors and educators.
